My practice has evolved over the years, driven by a growing awareness of the environment and a desire to live a slow, intuitive, and wholesome life. As a conscious individual, my principles and ethics are an ongoing inquiry that manifests in both my daily actions and my ceramic practice.
I am interested in conversations surrounding place, sustainability, presence, appreciation, and connection—connections to the land, materials, breath, tradition, and community. I aspire for my work to emerge from a place of introspection, inspired by time spent in the meditative embrace of natural settings. The act of slowing down and allowing myself to play within these spaces is integral to my creative process.
Each piece is hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel, meticulously turned and trimmed to achieve a quality of elegance and lightness. This tactile engagement enables my work to embody my energy and intention, resulting in charged handcrafted objects that I hope will resonate deeply with those who encounter them.
I create marks on my work using tools, both natural and manmade, and allow the shapes of stones collected from the shoreline and eroding fossils to gradually imprint onto the surface of the pots. The slips and glazes I apply serve not only to beautify the pieces but also to enhance their functionality. In this way, each piece tells a story, reflecting the narrative of its creation and the emotional resonance embedded within it.
The repetition of form, particularly in vessels, has been an ongoing exploration for me as a maker. My primary medium is porcelain clay, which brings its own set of challenges and constraints. Working with porcelain requires a delicate balance of patience and understanding, often leading to learning through failure.
Ultimately, my work is a testament to the transformative nature of clay—an energetic and living material capable of capturing the essence of the moment and the intention of the maker. Each handcrafted object stands as a vessel of energy and emotion, inviting viewers to connect with the deeper stories and the rich narrative woven into every piece.
